Year 6 STEM Challenge – the great egg drop

During one of the Friday Enrichment Time sessions, Year 6 took part in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) challenge. They were tasked with the challenge of creating a suitable container using only 3 materials, to protect an egg when it was dropped from head height.

There were 12 teams involved.

The materials they could make their three choices from where:

  • polystyrene nuggets,
  • art straws,
  • newspaper,
  • bubble wrap,
  • tissue paper,
  • polystyrene wrap,
  • ordinary paper.

From the drop, we manage to successfully save 11 out of the 12 eggs.

We definitely have some future engineers in our midst judging by their creations.
