This half-term in Science, Year 4 have been exploring the topic of sound. They have been looking at vibrating and testing out of newly found knowledge by twanging rulers, flicking elastic bands, nagging a drum with some rice on the skin and putting a tuning fork into water. During the sunnier weather in late September, they explored how far we could hear a sound, by dropping a dice and seeing if we could still hear it as they stepped further away.
And finally, they have been investing pitches. They have used a range of instruments such as a xylophones and guitars. In our practical lesson the children filled bottles with different volumes of water to listen to how the pitch changed as they blew over the top. All in all, the children have had a fantastic time this half-term learning about sound.
They can’t wait to start learning about light next.
