Design & Technology

Design and Technology at Seascape Primary School, develops children’s skills and knowledge in design, structures, mechanisms, electrical control and a range of materials, including food. It encourages children’s creativity and encourages them to think about important issues. Design and Technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject, which encourages children to learn to think and intervene creatively to solve problems both as individuals and as members of a team.

Design and Technology helps teachers to teach Maths and English and indeed other compulsory subjects on the curriculum in a fun manner and put these subjects into context making them easier to digest and more understandable to younger primary age pupils.

Design and Technology gives children the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and understanding of designing and making functional products. At Seascape Primary School, staff feel it is vital to nurture creativity and innovation through design, and by exploring the designed and made world in which we all live and work.

At Seascape Primary School, we encourage children to use their creativity and imagination, to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. We aim to, wherever possible, link work to other disciplines such as mathematics, science, computing and art. The children are also given opportunities to reflect upon and evaluate past and present design technology, its uses and its effectiveness and are encouraged to become innovators and risk-takers.
